The Gems of Shoulder Season

Early September is that time when we are all in flux, we are still buzzing off the highs of summer, but also yearning for the cool of Fall, the homely meals that come with the holidays and the times spent around the fire with a beverage in hand. This time is referred to as “shoulder season” and for some this is one of the most productive times of the year.In this newsletter, we are going to tell you of some awesome things to do, and spots to visit as we await the turning of the leaves.
Every year, We ride this 3-mile loop for anywhere from 75 miles to 100 miles to raise money for different causes.
For 2022, we are raising money for Free Indeed Ministries, a nonprofit that works with people struggling with addiction, we especially like them because they work closely with the children of those who are deep in addiction and they help stand in the gap. Read our write up for the 2019 ride to nowhere. Please donate here, and come out and ride with us.
Let’s Talk about Winter Sports!
We are blessed to not only live in these mountains but also to be able to experience them when they are coated in snow. There are multiple ski resorts and parks that receive a considerable amount of snow and we think we owe it to ourselves and children to go an experience these mountains in the winter considering our warming climate.
To that point we are putting together a ski club, once which we can build community around skiing, snowshoeing, XC skiing and other winter endeavors like trips and family outing. We would love your help if you have any relevant experience like this, or not, but are interested in helping the community in this way. Drop us a note here.
New to Wheelzup!

Things to go in Shoulder season.
Shoulder season: The time between core reasons like summer and winter. These are some of the best times to do these activities in Western Maryland.
Photography – From street photography of the picturesque downtown to great landscapes. Pro tip: check out the Dans rock and Green Ridge state forest overlook at sunset.
Fall Fishing – World class fly fishing. on stretches of the Savage , Yough, and Potomac rivers.
Running – Nothing beats a good trail run in these cooler temps. Enjoy the steady grade of the GAP trail or enjoy the solitude of the higher trails at Rocky Gap state park or the Local’s stache – The Bishop Walsh high school cross country course off Seton Drive.
Scenic Road Trip – Nothing beats a great road ride to watch the changing leaves – Start in Cumberland and ride up route 40, through Garrett county. You may be in tears by the end, thanks to the beauty.

Mandela’s Muses

Given the short period we have existed as a business, we have been very successful. This is according to our standard and definition of success. Very early in life, Jamie and I defined success as freedom to create and the opportunity to do as much good for the people we come in contact with.
As I contemplate this success, I am acutely aware of the role other people have played in it. The people who have been able to recognize our passion and drive in their younger selves, and have taken us under their wings, nurtured, protected and mentored us. The team members who have identified with the mission, vision and values of Wheelzup and have invested their love and energy, thus far. One of the things we say is that we believe in – “People Over Profit”, because at the end of the day, It’s all about relationships.

Who is that person in your life who you owe a text or call just to say, hey, thank you, I appreciate you.Go on, get to texting!
