Some quick thoughts for your week:

The light of Winter is the poetry of patience

For the first time, I acknowledged the transition to winter in a not so warm state of mind. The chilly mornings seemed a little colder than I remember, and the overall slowing down of life seemed quite unpalatable to my primed pace of life from months of running around all Summer and Fall. Alas, I must admit, I felt, and maybe am feeling a little depressed thanks to the “gray”.

The worst part of Eastcoast winters is not the cold, or rain, or sleet, of short days, no, it’s the gray – that overcast sky which holds back the joy-inducing rays of the sun. Fortunately or unfortunately, its up to us to find ways to stay upbeat in the gray days of winter.

Let’s talk about how:

3 Ways to survive the eastcoast winter.

These recommendations are really not terribly hard to do. They may seem like they are, but all it takes is a little bit of planning and a lot of will power. As is said, where there is a will, there will always be a way.
Here are some of the things we do to survive the grey eastcoast winter:

Ride your bike!
Yes, we know, its freezing outside! We are talking about riding your bike indoors. There are so many tools to use, from trainers, to rollers, and stationary bikes. There are also apps  to enjoy cycling indoors (Zwift, Peleton, IndieVelo) to name a few. These are incredibly engaging and interactive platforms that offer opprtunities to stay motivated through the winter. Yo can have meetups, group rides, and races.
We love Zwift, If you are interested, let us know and we will add you to the Wheelzup group rides.

Try a winter sport!
Yes, I know there are many reasons why you may think this is not a good idea, however wintersport is not limited to downhill skiing. Snowshoeing, iceskating, cross country skiing, fat-biking. There are communities around all these sports in your area, all you need to do is do a google search. If all else fails – sign up for some Pickle ball lessons.

Take a trip – Preferably out West
There absolutely is something different about Winter out West. If just seems so much less depressing, with bluebird days, fluffy snow, and the light-spirited atmosphere of fun. We know it can be expensive to make this trip, however, experiences are much more valuable than “stuff”, so why not? You deserve it! Not interested in that? Here are a few other winter escape ideas.

Wheelzup Gift Guide Pt 2.
Profile: The “Is this the one guy/girl”
Description: Your family member is bringing a new girlfriend our boyfriend, the third one in as many Christmases! It’s getting hard buying gifts for these people, you don’t know them enough to know what they like and know you should buy them something, instead of giving them a @chikfila gift card (which is what you really want to do).

Recommendation: Chums eyeglass retainer, Camelbak camp mug, Black Diamond carbine (great stocking stuffer), Opinel pocket knitted and picnic set, BD Headlamp, Nocs binoculars (if they are the one), Smartwool socks (everyone could use one).
Profile: The Avid Cyclist
Description: Always riding their bike or thinking of riding their bike. They have all the basics, and are very hard to buy for, especially because you are not a cyclist and don’t know what the heck to get them.

Recommendation: @blackburn digital pressure gauge, @ridebontrager Ion lights (great stocking stuffer), @lezyneofficial  torque wrench (beautifully made), Lezyne multitool pliers (comes with chain link), Park tool Tool bottle opener ( they will love this- trust us)!
