Wheelzup Adventures is a growing outdoor outfitter located in the heart of Cumberland, Maryland. We serve the local and traveling outdoor community through our retail store, shuttle and rental services, and our mission to build Access, Knowledge, and Community in the outdoors.
Our retail and online operations feature premium brands in bikes, apparel, and gear. Behind the scenes, maintaining accurate, clean, and up-to-date inventory is what keeps everything moving—and that’s where this role comes in.
Position Summary
The Inventory Specialist ensures that Wheelzup’s inventory systems are accurate, up to date, and fully integrated across in-store and online platforms. This person keeps our point-of-sale (POS) system clean, organized, and ready to support daily operations, special orders, and seasonal buying.
From receiving new product shipments to publishing items online, the Inventory Specialist plays a key role in connecting our back-end systems to the customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure product data is electronically clean and correct across all systems.
- Process order confirmations and input new products into the POS system upon receipt.
- Import product data files (SKUs, descriptions, pricing, etc.) for various brands and ensure consistency across listings.
- Manage special orders, layaways, and product transfers between Wheelzup locations.
- Publish and maintain products on the online store, including descriptions, images, and pricing.
- Receive incoming shipments: verify quantities, confirm accuracy of terms, and record items into the system.
- Tag merchandise, set reorder thresholds, and ensure all products are priced correctly before hitting the floor.
- Input purchase orders (POs) after preseason buying and maintain tracking for open and pending orders.
- Collaborate with sales staff to monitor fast-moving or low-stock products and recommend timely reorders.
- Perform quarterly inventory counts and adjustments to maintain accuracy.
- Participate in buying meetings, providing data-driven insights and recommendations.
- Maintain digital filing and documentation for all vendor transactions.
Required Qualifications
- Proven experience in inventory management, retail operations, or related administrative roles.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and verification.
- Proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets (comfortable with formulas, sorting, and bulk edits).
- High comfort level with technology, POS systems, and SaaS platforms.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail, outdoor gear, or sporting goods environments.
- Familiarity with Lightspeed, Shopify, or similar POS/e-commerce platforms.
- Basic understanding of product photography and content management for online stores.
- Interest in or familiarity with outdoor recreation, cycling, or retail merchandising.
