Outdoor activities bring happiness: embrace adventure!

The weather is breaking, we are seeing longer days, with the sun hanging higher in the sky and it’s rays dance lovingly on our faces. we long now to get outside, rather than cuddle up on the couch with a bowl of soup, binge watching the final seasons of the office, while snow blankets our driveways. With this joy also comes the pressure of going out and exercising. It seems like that bicycle hangs in the garage, untouched for months, accusing us of neglect and promises payback.

I think a shift in mindset is in order. As we near spring and summer, instead of thinking – I’ve got to loose weight, or I’ve got to get healthy, how about we think I‘ve got to get a shot of happiness. You don’t physically see the weight drop after a one mile walk or a 3 mile bike ride, however, you feel happy after that – focus on that.

We love the word ”Adventure” because it focuses on the journey, not the destination. There will be ups and downs, good days and bad days, but’s it’s an adventure because we stay in it for the now. We wake up and put the boots on, put one foot in front of the other, we look forward to the sunsets and rainbows after the rain. We long for the community of friends and people alike and different who share a passion. we long for the living that only happens when the Mercury ball is above 65.

There are 2 things we could do to make this happen:

  1. Set a goal and write it down – It does not have to be lofty like running a marathon or riding a gran fondo, nor does it need to be written on your mirror or anything, or framed. You could write a modest goal like walk twice s week down and throw it away. There’s just something about writing things down on paper, it makes it real.
  2. Community – Everything is better when shared. Get with a community, heck become part of the Wheelzup (WU) community, and we can have some adventures together.

Let’s get outside and get happy, even just for a day. See you out there.
